Finding Balance in the Feet and Pelvis
Jun 02, 2026
I have a client who has been dealing with pain in his inguinal area. He’s had lower back disc problems for years that’s always been underlying and it has migrated, spread and he’s in a near constant pain his front and back body.
In our sessions as he opens more and more each time he senses his pain is connected with thoughts and feelings that he’s familiar with. Since he was a child deep down he has had a feeling of sadness and thoughts of not ever being good enough. He’s not sure where or when it came into his life. He was raised by parents who loved him, he had a great childhood, and still suffers from a low self esteem.
His body seems to reflect these inner feelings, when I body read his posture the sunken energy and the grief that is alive in this being can be seen.
As we co-investigate he is open and receptive, and he voices how it takes work to keep up with the information he is receiving. He is aware and present and has been working on himself for many years. He listens, he reflects information back to me so I know he is receptive, he asks questions and each time he brings what we practice in session to his real life practice.
He is vulnerable with his feelings, even if sometimes he’s not sure what they are. He is present and available to his process. He wants to get to the root of the pain.
He is active in his quest to relieve the physical, mental and emotional suffering. And he needs help, he needs to be witnessed in his process.
As we work together we peel back layers, layers of fascia, layers of thoughts, habits, internal narratives and beliefs, attitudes, emotions and feelings. As he relearns how to walk, stand, and weight shift with grace, and more in his primal self, he starts to activate parts of himself that are dormant.
These places within him that are playing small, that are contracted, weak, unable to engage to fire, to come on line, these places that lack full range of motion and mobility. With his awareness he has greater access. He’s able to get a little deeper to the root and heart of what is going on.
He has insights, he listens closer to what he’s experiencing and to guidance. He is experiencing significantly less pain, has greater mobility and is finding a better relationship with himself.
He is learning how to be open to change. He is forming different habits, he is transforming. His pain levels have shifted, right when he was able to really breath into these places, to listen and acknowledge what he has been saying and feeling for a while.
Without having to should on himself, or shame these behaviors away. He is allowing and feeling the stored memories of the places in life that he felt defeated. The places where he was afraid of failing, these parts of himself that he avoided.
He is being with all of himself, without judgement. He is witnessing and holding a space of compassion. This is how we heal. It’s more simple than you might imagine, and the simplest is often the most overlooked and the most profound.
When we body read the feet, his heals were close and toes pointed out, classic duck walk feet. When the heals are close together and the toes are wider apart pointing outward this is because we have tight external rotators.
This means the fascia of the glutes and the underlying smaller intrinsic muscles like the piraformis and obturator muscles are tight and pulling, which can be responsible for pinching off the sciatic nerve. When the glutes are tight it can look like the tail is tucked between the legs, and that’s exactly what he’s presenting with.
When the tail tucked the sits bones are too close together, this can put strain on the lower back.
It’s classic for those teaching fitness to teach people to tuck their pelvis. Tucking the pelvis should have been left in the 80’s, it takes away the natural lordotic curve in the Lumbar spine.
The pelvis needs to sit in balance or there are imbalances which can lead to the base of the spine being off balance. When the base of the spine is off balance this leads to dilation of the spine. The spine needs to have a comfortable seat.
The body thrives in balance. Balance in the body contributes to it’s longevity. When we have balance and symmetry we have a healthy relationship with gravity.
We want to have a solid foundation from the ground up. Because we stack our selves from the bottom up, just like a building. The asymmetry of tension at a joint can bring imbalance and tension that ricochet’s up the body, with greater degrees as the body stacks itself in segments from the ground up.
This is why it is important to get treated, to address the imbalances, release the fascia and get you back to symmetrical alignment.
I practice Presence Centered Awareness Therapy and offer it during Myofascial Release sessions. I support my clients to heal. With these two modalities paired the results are transformational.
I hold space for the whole person and I am comfortable and familiar with navigating these deeper inquiries to address the root causes of the diagnoses. Science has been catching up to realize that yes we store trauma in our bodies and it is important to process and release trauma to heal.
Myofascial Release is a hands on specialized therapy with techniques developed by physical therapist and world renowned lecturer John Barnes. When fascia is understood as a fluid to solid medium of connecting tissues that are all interconnected and linked together within the body, we treat the body as a whole system.
Myofascial Release Therapy is effective post surgery, in the recovery of acute and chronic pain patterns, when nothing else has worked, when you have mysterious moving pain, when you want to find relief from pain, inflammation, asymmetry, imbalance and immobility.
Myofascial Release sees results that effect all systems of the body, because fascia wraps every cell and can thus effect the function and health of all systems in the body.
Myofascial Release is a gentle effective hands on therapy that releases myofascial restrictions.
I work as an injury specialist and see clients who are ready to create space and freedom in their bodies.
