Your Body is Your Ride or Die
Your body is your home, your tissues are your medium, material, a vehicle, your vessel. Some consider it a living temple, and you build and stack yourself from the ground up in segments.
This may seem autonomic, like it just happens, and again as the living work of art that you are, as you construct yourself, you can begin to make this stacking intentional. We are much like a moving plant. We root, to rise. We start with the feet, and we take a step. In this one step our whole organism changes shape to accommodate this new position.
Every time we move, sink or rise, we alter our position in space. Our entire fascial system changes and rearranges itself to transform into a new living shape. It’s really incredible, and as we notice and become curious, we can make these movements intentional.
It is fundamental to understand the nature of The Body’s Way. How your body kinesthetically functions determines your quality of experience. We are operating these vehicles, living in this home, driving this car (this body) is your Ride or Die. You will be here in this body, until the end of your life.
Investing your time and attention to care for your body is the best investment you will make. Your body’s function reflects your values, because it determines your ability. This is why self care is such a buzz word, because when you invest in yourself and take time to understand how you optimally move in space, you connect to your center.
To be in your center and know yourself more deeply is to find greater ease in your movements. To be embodied is to continue to connect and presence in your body. As you make time to love yourself and attend to the inner workings of your whole self, your outer experience will reflect these values.
When you place high value on transformational practices, your life circumstances will improve. You will be more productive and efficient in your essential nature and living your purpose. When you are in balance each part of you finds its center, you are grounded and aligned. Life is better when you take the time to nurture your body.
Many of us operate these vessels with little attention to the details of our body’s mechanics. Often, it is until there is dysfunction or failure in our body’s systems. Then we are faced with an opportunity to do some detective work—to investigate what happened.
When and where did we lose mobility, hurt ourselves, fail to pay attention and break the connection?
In life there are many unexpected circumstances, stresses, conditions that initiate a disconnect. These disconnections can be in family systems, in core beliefs that are formed in the first 7 years of our lives. It can be in the modeling and behaviors we learned from our parents, family, friends, or schoolmates.
Our habits patterns and personality traits often reflect the conditions and how we were treated and acted as children. There are many factors in our postural alignment.
We grow up having accidents and injuries. We fall, maybe we play hard, we break things—we are human. There are mistakes made, abuse and trauma may have happened.
There are many ways in which our body reflects our past, because we are a living journal of all of our experiences. And so the experience stacks up.
The breaks mend themselves, but the repair is often like a band-aid. Instead of returning the body to its original condition, the scar is of a different nature. The tissue is not organized in its original condition—it heals and configures in an adapted way.
These adaptations are dependent upon how much care is offered before and around the time of the original injury, how much attention is given after, and in turn affects the body’s ability to repair the damage.
Luckily repair can be done at any time. It is never too late. The body’s language is healing and transformation. It is always ready to learn and change is inevitable.
The question becomes: how do you want to change? How do you want to spend this precious time you were given in this sacred body?
You are the creator of your reality—what do you want to do, how do you want to be?
Choosing life means choosing you, and committing to the best version of yourself. Connection happens when you focus and pay attention. When you create a plan for your health and wellness and set clear intentions.
Then you make it happen by following through and you keep continuing to show up. You show up even when it’s hard. You train yourself to stay the course as you incrementally learn more about how to be the best you.
You move slowly and steadily through the resistance and continue to call yourself to this moment, to this current time. You make the commitment and set aside distractions. You choose to invest your currency of attention into the most valuable asset you have: yourself.
If you think of the body as a building, stacking in segments from the ground up, we are looking for symmetrical even tension within each part of the body and each side from left to right, front to back.
When something is out of alignment, the body has to balance out by creating restriction on the opposite side as it stacks up. So a little bit of uneven tension in the feet can transfer to the neck and have created restriction often in a zig-zag pattern up through the ankle, knee, hip, low, mid and upper back, shoulders, neck & head.
Basically where there is a joint there is a stack. Each time the fascia breaks in repair it can often over-patch, which can create further restriction. These restrictions link through the fascial matrix, furthering tension patterns and restricting and bracing. This is why it is so important to look at the entire body as a whole and get treated.
Myofascial Release (MFR) reorganizes your tissues and differentiates the muscles from one another so that they are more able to perform their specific role.
Angela trained with Master Lee Joseph and Carole Madsen at Pacific Center for Awareness and Bodywork on Kauai, Hawaii, where she taught alongside Lee Joseph, a master in fascial and awareness work. The main focus of study was Structural Integration—Rolfing and his complete 7-month training in Presence Centered Awareness Therapy.
Lee Joseph created Presence Centered Awareness Therapy (PCAT), a synthesis of meditation, self-inquiry communication and consciousness tools. PCAT supports personal growth by teaching new ways of viewing from an elevated consciousness that helps navigate physical sensations, mental and emotional memories and behavioral patterns.
By learning to center in presence and practicing awareness, there is new space created to experience and sustain your life with more content, easeful, relaxed states in the here and now. There is more room in your house for joy, peace, freedom, and love. Many (if not all) of your issues are in your tissues.
The body is a perfect gateway for transformation, and this is the most effective way to process.
